What we do?

We currently operate in Mali and Rwanda, helping children access decent primary education.
Before any work is done, we get to know local communities and the unique challenges they face. We work together with representatives to develop solutions that are participatory and place-based. As a sponsor, you help a child access education, build a school with us, or participate in one of our community development projects. Help us make a difference!

Our work

Sponsor a Child! Program

In many parts of Africa, children can only attend school if someone pays their modest tuition or the mandatory school fees. As a result, many children drop out or never make it to school at all. We place special importance on supporting our university students, as we believe they are the ones who will help lift their own communities out of poverty. Currently, we are working in Mali and Rwanda.

Programs in Africa

In addition to developing our partner schools, we place special emphasis on the empowerment of African women. In Bamako, we run a women’s shelter and training center, and we are deeply committed to helping end the harmful practice of female genital mutilation in Mali. We also organize volunteer and supporter trips to beautiful and safe Rwanda.

Programs in Hungary

Lectures, festivals, roundtable discussions — as part of our activities in Hungary, we are always happy to share stories about Africa with audiences of all ages. It’s important to us to showcase the beauty of Africa and highlight what we can learn from the communities there. Our social enterprise, Hint of Africa, is a blend of sustainability, support, and design — we give new life to recycled clothing by adding a touch of vibrant African fabric.

Written about us

„While the outstandingly important activity of the Close to Africa Foundation, through which they help African children – whose parents were unable to cover study-related expenses and tuition – receive proper education, is already worthy of great appreciation in itself, but given their exceptional dedication, empathy, and deep human love with which this activity is carried out, they deserve nothing less than some special respect and true admiration.”

Irene

'The Close to Africa Foundation's team does not know the impossible and has chosen the most effective way to promote social mobility by helping young people to learn. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be part of this fantastic project and enabling us to support the continuation of talented young persons' schooling!'

Thomas

'It is an honour for me to know and work with the Close to Africa Foundation because I personally know what it is like to live in Africa and I know what it is like to not have access to proper school supplies or even have no access to education at all. Education is the most important thing one can receive. I have received a lot of help in my life and I want to give back as much as I can to the world.'
