Girls' Cause campaign with Orsolya Karafiáth
The Girls’ Cause, or the fight against female genital mutilation, has been one of our most important ongoing projects for years — and we have now reached its final phase, in which the House of Hope also plays a key role. The aim of our newly launched campaign is to start a training program at the House of Hope, where young people from Mali will become voices of change. They will promote and spread the message within their own communities and in the Sansfil district that the harmful tradition of female genital mutilation is outdated. In 2020, the European Union classified female genital mutilation as one of the most serious human rights violations in the world.
Although it may seem that this issue affects us little here in Hungary, it is actually important that we use our privileged position to take action for the 200 million girls and women around the world who are affected by it—many of whom are not in a position to stand up for themselves.
The well-known writer Orsolya Karafiáth has also joined our cause as an ambassador. You can find our conversation with her on our Instagram page and on our website: Hint of Africa – Egy csipetnyi Afrika too.
