"My name is Bertin, and I am a Rwandan student who was recently admitted to the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Rwanda. I come from a modest family background and was raised by a hard-working single mother who has always been my greatest inspiration in life.

My mother is 37 years old. She works as a casual day laborer when she can find work. She raised me and my two siblings on her own after our father died. Despite many challenges, my mother always did everything she could to ensure that we could go to school and live with dignity. I am the oldest child in my family. My brother is 17 and my youngest sister is 6. We all live with our mother in a small rented house. Life is not easy, but we live in hope, love, and unity. Because my mother's income is very small, we often could not pay for school expenses, food, and other basic necessities. Nevertheless, my mother's courage and hard work always encouraged me to study hard. She often told me that education is the best gift and legacy she could give us.

Our long-time beneficiary, Bertin, was accepted into the Social Work program at the University of Rwanda thanks to his excellent high school diploma. This is a very important field of study in Rwanda, as the government operates many social programs to combat extreme poverty, thus providing job opportunities.

However, Bertin cannot accept his place at university without our help. We would like to provide him with a scholarship to cover his accommodation, meals, and tuition fees.
